Red Rocks!

In celebration of a brand new year, here is a big post of photos from Denver’s greatest park…

When Denver businessman John Brisben Walker owned this land,
he named Red Rocks “Garden of the Titans”.

Denver acquired the park in 1927 from Walker for $54,133.

International-style architect Burnham Hoyt designed the amphitheatre
with it’s perfectly-sited seat rows and stage in 1936. It was first opened
in 1941. The horizontal line in the middle of the structure above shows
the original one-story height.

Clearly, this building belongs on this site.

And you can easily see why actor Cowboy Pete Morrison filmed
silent western films here between 1908 and 1910.
