The unique roof of this church makes use of the mathematical shape, the hyperbolic
parabaloid
. (Actually as Joel Haertling corrects in the comments, more of a
convex dome.)

The structure is less hyperbolic parabaloid and more a convex dome.
There is also a motion picture “home movie” of the construction of this church shot by Charles A. Haertling incoporated in “Design Process of Charles A. Haertling Architect,” a 50 min. film.

I grew up not far from here and often had fantasies of skateboarding on that roof. never got up there though. the other one I wanted to skate on was the roof of the mystery building on 2nd and havana on aurora with the roof that looked like it was comprised of lots of BIG bubbles. I did climb up there and was disappointed to find out that the roof was some sort of rubber coated foam!?!

The building in Aurora is Fan Fair Discount City, featured in recent posts on The Eye!
