Taylor’s Supper Club sign

TaylorsFront

LP cover with a rendering of the sign in front of Taylor’s Supper Club, an entertainment institution on West Colfax in Lakewood from the 1940s through the 1970s. Run by Sammy Toole and starring The Taylors, who put out many local LPs aside from this one.

Went there on my honeymoon. I remember the Tayor Four (?) and THE HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHTS. Great group. For some reason Asleep at the Wheel reminds me of them. Am I nuts?

I remember seeing the Lawmen as a Kid and them singing Sweet Caroline. Bow (The pilsburry dough boy used to let me push his tummy and he would do the laugh. (I WAS 7) I remember one time we went and they gave me a cumber bun so I could be a big boy LOL. They taught me how to wear it with the ruffles up to catch the crumbs.. those were very diffrent times and truly wonderful… If anyone has or knows where the Lawmen record can be found please let me know… I’d love to listen to those times again…

This is lin of the Warming Trend! Had a blast working and playing at Taylor’s! The Warming Trend is alive and well and living mostly in Colorado! Anyone know what happened to Buddy & Kenny or the Taylor’s quartet? I know we’re all getting up there, but….

I literally grew up at Taylor’s Supper Club – my parents owned McEwen Music on West Colfax (Len and Alice McEwen), and many of the musicians who performed at Taylor’s bought instruments from us. Ray Alburn also worked at our music store – wound up marrying my mom after my dad’s death. Alice passed away in 1982 and Ray passed away a few years ago in Savannah, Missouri.
Lost track of everybody else: Buddy, Kenny, the Lawmen, members of the Action Brass, Sammy Toole, the amazing wait staff, etc.
Great times at Taylors – started going there when I was about 5 or 6 years old (back when there was a Taylor’s Four).
Would love to hear from others associated with Taylors!
