Lost their guitarist, that year to Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band who were the house band at Denver’s Whisky A-Go-Go on Evans. The Whisky later became famous as The Family Dog and is now PT’s

The original JAGS started in Wellington, Kansas. Dolphie Ybarra (center in the photo) was part of this group. Dolphie died around 2000.

For those of you who are wondering about Dolph and the music of the “The Fantabulous Jags” you can contact me for more information. I’m his oldest son who became his keyboard player and backup vocals during his tour circuit of the western states. In the early 1980’s, he was based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. We provided the “Classic Dolph” style of entertainment at the casino showrooms in Wendover,Nevada during the grand opening days of that now booming town in Nevada. I reside in Las Vegas, NV now and the club the JAGS played at on the famous Fremont St. in downtown Vegas still stands. Back when “The Fantabulous Jags” left Denver, CO, they were booked at the ‘Silver Slipper’ Casino. It is now the Mermaid Casino. At this time I am interested in seeking any video footage of his performances/pictures.

Dolphie Ybarra was my brother’s dad. My mom is the one who did the band’s hair! Crazy!!! If anyone knows how to get a hold of a copy of their album, I would love to hear about it. My brother used to have one but it got lost over time and I would love to surprise him!

I grew up in West Denver and I recall on occasion spotting one or two of the “Fantabulous Jags” coming into Arlan’s Department store by KIMN studios to – I remember the first time – seeing the hair-do – as they must have been on their way to a performance – When I turned 18 I went to see them I believe down on Santa Fe and it was at the “Pussy Cat A-Go-Go” – I remember them singing “One Dyin’ and a Buryin” and it was in a whole different league than Roger Miller’s. I seem to remember echo – and lots of reverb! Great band.

I am curious to know what are the SR numbers located to the right on the records. I have all three too and trying to see how many prints were made. Do you know if The Fab Jags traveled to New York to record the 45’s or did they lay the tracs in Denver?
