The Lawmen

Lawmen_LP

Taylor’s Supper Club act The Lawmen, from their first LP dated 1969. They were all
actual Jefferson County lawmen and clearly an entertaining act! From left to right in front,
Sheriffs John Ray, Bo Cottrell & John Grout!

Here is sample from The Lawmen, Live At Taylors: The Lawmen

(Special shout out to John Grout’s daughter Suzanne who just commented on the
Taylor’s post this very afternoon!)

As a followup, Wayne Yaffee (of KEZW’s “Afternoons with Wayne Yaffee“) points out:

“The Lawmen weren’t the only local officers who performed music. Anyone remember
the Denver Police Department’s “Squad IV”? They were 4 Denver cops who had a rock
band as a community outreach.”

We knew the lawmen well. Bo cottrel was a neighbor, John Grout worked as security for me a the Joslins store in Villa Italia Center. We were patrons of the old and new Taylors for many years. The used to call me Joslin Gene at Taylors. John Grout made a big bust for our store as a security officer, moonlighting. Is any of those guys still going?

I remember seeing the Lawmen as a Kid and them singing Sweet Caroline. John (The pilsburry dough boy) used to let me push his tummy and he would do the laugh.(I WAS 7) I remember one time we went and they gave me a cumber bun so I could be a big boy LOL. They taught me how to wear it too with the ruffles up to catch the crumbs.. Those were very diffrent times and truly wonderful… If anyone has or knows where the Lawmen record can be found or the video they made at Taylors please let me know… I’d love to listen to those times again…

I remember Squad IV. They came to my elementary school a couple of times. The last time I remember seeign them was the 1978-79 school year. I’m guessign they would have to have been retired cops by now.

I saw Squad IV at Dora Moore Elementary around 1979/1980.
