Witkin house

Southern-Hills-IMG_9343

Another Fall photo from Southern Hills, this one the Usonian-style Witkin House,
designed 1959 by Horace Brand and Harvey Jensen. The beams are quite unique.

(Architect names gleaned from the guidebook The Mid-Century Modern House in
Denver
by Michael Paglia and Diane Wray Tomasso.)

hey, this is a really great website!

question, when you use the term usonian, what exactly are you talking about? i’m only familiar with the term in reference to the limited number of houses frank lloyd wright built and called by that name. just curious.

i really love the pictures and the exhaustive coverage of so much great colorado architecture. keep up the good work!

Usonian architecture is the flipside to the other style of modern architecture available at the time, International style. I like both, but what I like about Usonian style is that it made modernists not shy away from including design details and patterns, compared to the starkness of the International style.
